Job Description:

This position will provide support to the customer, and internal sales staff, on all Commercial Lines Insurance business. Sales support will consist of developing new accounts, quoting new business coverages, maintaining existing accounts, remarketing renewals, forwarding submission packages to the appropriate carrier, and creating insurance proposals for customers. Customer service will consist of discussing coverages, recommending coverages, requesting policy changes, taking claim information, verifying account information, answering customers’ questions, and generating the appropriate documents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Specific methods on completing these duties are outlined in the Agency Procedures Manual)
  • Accurately maintains all customer information on the agency management system and in paper files until such time as the agency converts to computer files. Works toward agency goal of 100% electronic files.
  • Knows the various company products, underwriting requirements, policy forms, rating software programs, and competitiveness in the marketplace.
  • Services all existing commercial lines accounts by:
    • Speaking with customers and company personnel on the phone or in person and responding to all written correspondence.
    • Answering coverage questions, recommending coverages, taking policy change information, taking claim information with the assistance of the claims department, collecting premiums, submitting the proper documents to the insurance company, and verifying that documents received from the company are correct.
  • Issues the proper insurance verification documents to the insured (auto id, certificates, etc).
  • Resolves customer problems & complaints (with assistance/direction from producer or supervisor as needed).
  • Follows up on agency-bill policies that cancel.
  • Assists with the collection of premiums and reconciliation of accounts as needed.
  • Markets new and renewal business. Completes underwriting information and applications. Presents submissions to companies. Compiles company quotes and performs initial price and coverage negotiation with carriers. Presents quotes to producer in an organized format. Creates accurate and professional-looking insurance proposals for the producer to present to the insured.
  • Develops existing accounts by attempting to provide additional coverages on a policy or adding additional lines of business.
  • Assists producer in developing new business by providing accurate quotes, in a timely manner; preparing proposals; completing company required forms; submitting account information to the company; providing the customer with appropriate documentation; and verifying documents received from the company are accurate.
  • Assists with the development of recommended coverages for customers.
  • Accompanies producer on visits to insureds as necessary.
  • Controls (service & sales) a "house" book of business.
  • Meets with Company marketing representatives to learn of new products or changes.
  • Participates in reviewing, developing, rewriting, and implementing agency procedures.
  • Participates in community & professional activities as an agency representative.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
There is no direct supervision of other employees required of this position. However, this position will assist, on an as-needed basis, with the training of other individuals within or new to the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education: Minimum High School Diploma or GED; college degree preferred. Experience: 3 year agency experience as a Commercial Lines CSR or Producer.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate using the English Language. The ability to read, prepare, analyze and interpret insurance related documents such as application forms, policy documents, manuals and general correspondence is required. Must be able to communicate information and respond to questions (verbally and in written form) effectively with clients, company personnel, and other agency staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Be able to perform basic math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent. Calculate discounts, commissions, and percentages. These are the skills necessary in order to calculate premium and commission, and assist with premium payment arrangements, including financing.

COMPUTER SKILL
Prior experience with an Insurance Agency Management software program such as AMS Afw/360, Applied/TAM, Saggita, Delphi, etc., is mandatory. Basic knowledge of a word processing program and spreadsheet program is needed. Typing skills (40 wpm) or prior data input experience is mandatory. Knowledge of Excel and Outlook also necessary.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding, interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form to insurance and general office situations. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. The ability to recognize and solve customer problems that are related to their insurance policies is required. Must be capable of collecting underwriting information and determining the appropriate company for account placement.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
License: Hold and maintain a current Agents P&C Insurance License for the appropriate state(s).
Continuing Education: Attend Insurance classes that will increase understanding of the industry and meet state licensing requirements.
